Knox Park Primary School
Knox Park Primary School - Art 2020
The biggest challenge with teaching Visual Arts during remote learning was the availability of materials for all students and therefore my program had to use only the most basic of art materials in order to ensure it was inclusive and possible for all students at home.
During remote learning, the Foundation – Year 6 students were given the opportunity to further explore and practice their understanding of the elements of art using the materials which they had available to them at home.
In the Junior school (Foundation – Year 2), students were offered activities which focused on the element of colour, including investigating the colour wheel and the element of lines and shape, being used in drawing activities and collages. They were also offered construction and paper weaving tasks which enabled them to practice their skills when working with recycled materials and the process of manipulating paper.
Whilst at school, students in Foundation worked on their stamp printing techniques, creating gorgeous stamp print monsters and they also created their own self-portrait using oil pastels and water colour paints.
Students in Years 1 & 2 once returning to school, focused on the element of line and colour to complete their hand print trees using both acrylic and water colour paints, as well as gold / silver paint pens.
Whilst learning from home, middle school students (Years 3 & 4) were provided with activities which developed their ability when drawing silhouettes, cartoons, portraits and street art and practiced the process of directed drawing. They explored their creativity and imagination through artworks which further nurtured their understanding of many of the art elements including line, shape, colour, texture and shape.
When at school, students in Years 3 & 4 were inspired by the artist Romero Britto and completed their very own Romero Britto self-portraits. They also were very excited to have a free creation lesson with the water colour paints and oil pastels to create their own painting.
In the Senior school (Years 5 & 6) during remote learning, students were given the opportunity to express their creativity and imagination through a variety of Visual Art activities with the focus mainly being to develop their understanding of the elements of art, through the skill of drawing. They explored the elements of colour, line, shape, texture and shape.
At school, both Senior levels created their own 3D paper self-portrait, manipulating and cutting paper to create their own facial features. They also had the opportunity to follow a directed drawing lesson to complete and colour a tiger.
During remote learning, the whole school Visual Arts challenge also enabled all students to express themselves artistically and if taking part, they had their artworks featured on the Knox Park Online Art Gallery.
