Drama 2020

This year in Drama, students have explored a range of performance styles including Epic Theatre, Musical Theatre, Commedia Dell’arte, Theatre of Cruelty and many more. Our VCE students have worked tirelessly developing an ensemble performance based on the politics of climate change and a solo performance based on the worldwide spread of the coronavirus. In year 8 students developed a range of character types and performed scenes from Caryl Churchill’s ‘Love and Information’. Our Year 9 and 10 students experimented with the rules of improvisation, comedy and demonstrated their ability to perform a range of characters through the creation of their own movie trailer. While this year has been a challenging year for students in Drama, they have all demonstrated a positive attitude towards their learning and created a breadth of digital work demonstrating their performance skills.

VCE Drama - Character Development

Through a political lens, students developed characters in line with Brecht's Epic Theatre. He believed that characters should only have titles rather than names. This was to avoid audiences developing an emotional connection to the character as this would take away from the political message being presented.

VCE Drama - Ensemble Performances

Students used Improvisation to develop a Physical Theatre performance based on the stimulus of infection. This explores the societal effects of a widespread virus. Elements of physical theatre were combined with elements of Theatre of Cruelty to create an effect of discomfort for the audience.
